Spectralon®

The most common request we get is for components built from Spectralon®, a material that provides the highest known diffuse reflectance over the UV-VIS-NIR region of the spectrum.

Most commonly supplied in “pucks” or targets for calibration of optical instrumentation, this machined material can be shaped to form laser cavities and diffuse reflectors, line integrating spheres to provide uniform radiometric sensor calibration sources or as small on-board calibration references in optically based medical devices – see https://www.labsphere.com/about/labsphere/analysis-just-got-easier/

Space-Grade Spectralon® has gained wide acceptance as a diffuse reflectance material for terrestrial and space remote sensing applications for both field and laboratory applications. Space-Grade Spectralon® has undergone extensive testing for UV exposure, Proton bombardment, atomic oxygen exposure, a-Lyman radiation, outgassing and static charge testing by national laboratories, such as Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Goddard Space Flight Center, TRW, and CSEM. This testing has led to the development of a stringent manufacturing process that eliminates potential contaminants which lead to UV degradation.
